PITTSBURGH ILLUSTRATIONS AND TYPEFACE
This project included the creation of materials that could be used to promote tourism to the Pittsburgh area. Inspired by the work of designer Art Chantry, almost all elements of this series were designed using analog processes. This included tracing the typeface Bahianita and transferring it to a linoleum block print, creating a distinct texture reminiscent of the city’s industrial roots and location in the Rust Belt. All illustrations were created with pens and India Ink and scanned into Illustrator. These include various landmarks around the city. Promotional materials included matchboxes, posters, and apparel.
PROCESS
Shown below are images of my process for this project. This included thumbnail sketches of poster and illustration ideas and the creation of analog elements that were scanned into Illustrator. The linoleum typeface was cut by hand, stamped onto paper, and digitized.
The illustrations were also created by hand using pencil, pen and india ink, which gave them a unique texture. These were vectorized in Illustrator.
